Oticon er verdens ældste producent af høreapparater. Firmaet fyldte 100 år i 2004.<br /> <br /> <br /> '''Et glashus'''<br /> <br /> Bygningens ydervægge består af glas, taget er dækket af tagpap. Den er opført 2001-2002 af KHR Arkitekter til It-virksomheden Intel, ombygget og nyindrettet til Oticon af PLH Arkitekter 2005.<br /> 2006 blev der opsat en 14 meter høj pylon.<br /> <br /> '''Fra fiasko til succes'''<br /> <br /> Det var It-giganten Intel, som satte gang i det spændende byggeri. Da ejendommen på 22.000 kvadratmeter stod færdig i marts 2003, var problemet bare, at Intel ikke længere havde noget at bruge den til. Hele branchen havde forandret sig, og derfor blev ejendommen i Smørum ikke taget i brug, men sat til salg.<br /> Det forladte It-hovedsæde blev overtaget af Oticon, som ledte de efter et nyt og større hovedsæde. Ejendommen i Smørum var det perfekte valg. Det er i få etager, hvilket understøtter den organisatoriske og fysiske transparens, som firmaet gerne vil have. Og det var billigere for Oticon end selv at bygge et nyt hovedsæde. Det ville også have taget længere tid.<br /> Mandag den 31. oktober 2005 flyttede cirka 500 Oticon-medarbejdere fra Strandvejen ind i det ombyggede hovedsæde i Smørum. Hele husets indre er omdannet, så det passer til Oticons behov. Ved ændringerne af bygningen er medarbejderne blev taget med på råd.
